A nicely made and beautiful sounding German violin

belly back

Among the many 'factory' violins made in the latter half of the 19th century and beyond, some stand out as being both musically superior or as having been very well made. This violin is both. The quality of workmanship is fine, and there has been no significant damage to the wood nor joints. The varnish has suffered considerable wear, but the ground is of sufficient hardness to protect the wood very well. Even across the four strings and capable of projecting well in a large hall, this is a true soloist's violin in spirit and practice. The broad pattern and handsome wood complement the neat workmanship and apparent understanding of thicknessing by the makers.
